POAG EXECUTIVE MINUTES -
September 2003:
The
Executive Committee of the Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc.
held a meeting at 4 P. M., September 20, 2003, at the Jekyll Inn, Jekyll
Island, Georgia. Committee members attending included President Harry
Colbert, III, Vice President Homer Bryson, Board Member Gary Hill,
Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, Legislative Chairman Bob Brown, Public
Relations Director Jimmy Jones, and Executive Director Marion Conley.
Board Member Keith Moran was organizing the arrival of Blue Knights of
Ga. VIII. Attorney Frank Childs and Chaplain Jimmy Waters were unable to
attend. Visitors included Morgan and Joyce Key, Jimmy Sims, Ted Darley,
Shirley and Al Alley.
The meeting
was called to order and a welcome given all in attendance by President
Colbert. Vice President Homer Bryson gave the invocation.
A motion was
made by Homer Bryson, seconded by Gary Hill and passed to approve the
minutes and financial report from August, 2003.
Secretary John
Conley made the Committee aware of an invitation received from Senator Zell
Miller’s office inviting law enforcement officials to a two-day seminar,
sponsored by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
However, since the date of the seminar and the location of the seminar were
unclear, there was no decision made on this invitation.
President
Colbert gave a report on the actions of the Indemnification Committee
relevant to an officer killed off duty but identifying himself as a law
enforcement officer while a crime was in progress. The benefits were in
question but ultimately given to the officer.
Vice President
Homer Bryson reported that Ziggy Mahoney would once again perform Monday
night of the convention for the same $1,000 fee he charged two years ago.
Homer also asked for two sergeant-at-arms at the Indian Mounds golf course,
16th hole, to observe the automobile to be given by Dan Vaden if
there was a winner of the hole in one.
Bob Brown
continues to research the various scholarship programs available to
dependents peace officers.
Secretary
Conley reported a problem that has arisen in the office over a death benefit
payment. After a discussion among the committee members, it was decided
upon a motion by Bob Brown and a second by Homer Bryson to talk with
Attorney Frank Childs and abide by his decision on the matter. The motion
was approved.
The Ladies
Auxiliary President Shirley Alley asked about the transportation of the
Ladies to the Colonial Mall. Homer Bryson relayed that this matter had been
taken care of and transportation was available.
President Colbert asked for
a pay raise for Executive Director, Marion Conley. A motion was made by
Homer Bryson, seconded by Bob Brown and passed to grant Mrs. Conley a 5% pay
raise.
John Conley made a motion,
seconded by Homer Bryson and passed to adjourn the meeting. Accordingly,
the meeting was adjourned.. |
