POAG
EXECUTIVE MINUTES - September 2002:
The Executive
Committee of the Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. held a
meeting at 5 P. M., September 21, 2002, at the Holiday Inn Conference
Center, Macon, Georgia. Committee members attending included President
Wayne Avery, Vice President Harry Colbert, Board Members Keith Moran and
Homer Bryson, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, Attorney Frank Childs,
Executive Director Marion Conley and Public Relations Director Ken Suddeth.
Chaplain Jimmy Waters were unable to attend. Visitors included: Shirley
and Tom Alley.
The meeting
was called to order and a welcome given all in attendance by President
Wayne Avery. The invocation was also given by President Wayne Avery.
The minutes
and financial report from August, 2002 were approved upon a motion from
Harry Colbert. The motion was seconded by Homer Bryson and passed.
President
Wayne Avery handed out a letter he had drafted to be sent each Sheriff and
each Chief in the State concerning our agreement with Emergency Services,
Inc., a subsidiary of Callan Publishing. This agreement will hopefully
provide the Association with much needed income by procuring sponsors of
the Association. Marion Conley advised the Committee that Mike Callan now
had the signed contract.
Board Member
Keith Moran relayed to the Committee that the Sheriff’s Association and
County Officers’ Association would be meeting in Savannah in next month.
He would be attending on behalf of POAG.
A motion was
made by Harry Colbert, seconded by Keith Moran and passed authorizing
Secretary-Treasurer John Conley to pay all convention expenses.
President
Avery reported that Channels 24, 13 and 58 had been contacted for press
coverage of convention activities.
Marion Conley
passed out an e-mail received from a member asking for a list of retirees
from his particular agency. The agency is attempting to write a history
and would like information the retired agents may be able to share. A
motion was made by Harry Colbert, seconded by John Conley and passed to
release these names to this particular person for this particular reason.
President
Avery was going to ask that any meals left over after the Tuesday night
meal be given to the Rescue Mission since POAG has to guarantee 250-300
meals.
The October meeting was
set for October 23, 2002, 10 A. M., POAG office in Reidsville.
The meeting was adjourned
upon a motion from John Conley. His motion was seconded by Homer Bryson
and passed.
