POAG EXECUTIVE MINUTES - September 2000: 

The Executive Committee of the Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 4 P. M., September 23, 2000 at the Rivertown Inn, Columbus, Georgia. Committee members attending included President Bill Hitchens, Vice President Carson Knight, Board Members Wayne Avery and Harry Colbert, Legislative Chairman Bob Brown, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, and Executive Director Marion Conley. Public Relations Director Jimmy Jones, Attorney Frank Childs and Chaplain Jimmy Waters were unable to attend. Visitors included: Ed Richards, Morgan and Joyce Key, Ken Suddeth and Mrs. Mary Poole.

President Hitchens called the meeting to order.

President Hitchens thanked POAG member Ed Richards for the tremendous job he had done in helping the office with convention details. The office personnel had called on Ed numerous times to help with convention chores. Ed performed many tasks most efficiently in an attempt to assure a successful convention for all members.

The invocation was given by Vice President Carson Knight with the pledge of allegiance being led by Legislative Chairman Bob Brown.

A motion was made by Carson Knight and seconded by Wayne Avery to approve the minutes and financial report from August, 2000. The motion passed.

President Hitchens was very happy to report the web page was up and running, thanks to member Mark Revenew. The web address is www.poag.org.

The convention program was passed out and discussed.

Ladies Auxiliary President Mary Poole thanked all for the support she had received during her tenure as president. She promised to continue working on the "history books" of the Association. Mrs. Poole was complimented by all the Committee for the job she had done as President. She had truly been a delight to work with.

Legislative Chairman Bob Brown volunteered to relinquish his time on the convention program to Jimmy Dean from the Public Safety Training Center to discuss the scholarship program under The Georgia Police Corps.

The next meeting was called for October 10, 2000 at the Bibb County Training Range, Macon, Georgia. The meeting is to convene at 10 A. M.

A motion was made by Wayne Avery, seconded by Bob Brown and passed to adjourn.

In the absence of Vice President Carson Knight it was decided to acquire a $300.00 gift of appreciation for his time so faithfully served on the Committee. Carson will not be seeking reelection to any position. It was also decided to order Mrs. Poole a bouquet of flowers.
