POAG EXECUTIVE MINUTES - October 2004:
The Executive Committee of the Peace
Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 10 A.M.,
October 28, 2004, at the Peace Officers’Association of Georgia office,
Reidsville, Georgia. Committee members attending included President
Keith Moran, Vice President Gary W. Hill, Board Members Jimmy Jones and
Mike Fordham, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, Legislative Chairman
Homer Bryson and Attorney Frank Childs. Executive Director Marion Conley
and Chaplain Rick Lanford were unable to attend. Visitors included:
Bobby Carter, Thomas A. Alley and Billy Partridge.
President Keith Moran called the meeting to order and welcomed all in
attendance. The invocation was given by Board Member Jimmy Jones with
the Pledge of Allegiance being also led by Jimmy Jones.
Homer Bryson made a motion, which was seconded by Jimmy Jones to approve
the minutes and financial report from September, 2004. The motion
passed.
A letter had been received from the Holiday Inn in Macon a couple of
weeks AFTER the convention complaining of some of their guests
complaining of excessive noise from our convention delegates. President
Moran relayed he had spoken with Julie Rowland, director of Sales with
the Holiday Inn about this complaint and asked that the next time a
convention is held there and a complaint is received that some member of
the Executive Committee be promptly notified so that the problem may be
swiftly dealt with. Attorney Frank Childs will talk to Dwight Jones,
President of Ocmulgee Fields, owner of the Holiday Inn. POAG certainly
wishes no adverse publicity but is definitely at a disadvantage about
being able to do something about a problem if they are unaware of the
problem for weeks after the occurrence.
President Moran volunteered to personally contact each person that
nominates a person for ‘Officer of the Year” prior to the convention and
ascertain if the recipient of the award will be at the convention to
receive the award.
The Chief Deputy of Richmond County has agreed for ads to be sold in
Richmond County as long as the person that sold last year does not come
back again.
Attorney Frank Childs has communicated with John Cipolla regarding the
new insurance benefits going into effect January 1, 2005. Mr. Cipolla is
guaranteeing us the quoted premium for three years. Mr. Cipolla will be
sending a contract for our Attorney to review and advise us. President
Moran has gotten references of Mr. Cipolla’s company and all the
references stated it is a good company.
President Moran is working on redoing the POAG “Facts” brochure so that
the new insurance coverage, scholarship etc. will be included.
President Moran would like all District Directors to become more
actively involved in the monthly meetings and the Association business.
President Moran would like to “tie down” the golf tournament for a date
in April with the Executive Committee meeting to be held the following
day.
Vice President Gary Hill had been communicating with Bill Thomas of Big
Bad Wolf Barbeque. A motion was made by John Conley, seconded by Homer
Bryson and passed to accept Mr. Thomas’ proposal of feeding 400
delegates for the 2005 convention barbeque on Monday at a cost of $4.50
per person. He will feed 250 delegates chicken breast and steak on
Tuesday at a cost of $7.00 per person.
The next meeting was called for Tuesday, November 30, 2004, Room 219,
Georgia Public Safety Training Center, Forsyth, Georgia. The meeting
will convene at 10 A.M.
A motion was made by Homer Bryson, seconded by Mike Fordham and passed
to adjourn to lunch at Southern Flair. |
