POAG EXECUTIVE MINUTES
- November
2004:
The Executive Committee of the Peace
Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 10 A.M., November
30, 2004 at the Public Safety Training Center, Forsyth, Georgia. Committee
members attending included President Keith Moran, Vice President Gary W.
Hill, Board Members Jimmy Jones, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, Executive
Director Marion Conley, Attorney Frank Childs and Chaplain Rick Lanford.
Board Member Mike Fordham and Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson were unable
to attend. Visitors included: Thomas A. Alley, Ken Suddeth, Dottie Harden,
Billy Stone and Jerry Scott.
President Keith Moran called the meeting to order and welcomed all in
attendance. The invocation was given by Chaplain Rick Lanford with the
Pledge of
Allegiance being led by President Moran.
Jimmy Jones made a motion, which was seconded by Gary Hill to approve the
minutes and financial report from October,2004. The motion passed.
Secretary John Conley reported that the contract with John L. Cipolla
(Standard Insurance Company) on the accidental death and dismemberment
insurance set to go into effect January 1, 2005 had been signed. A check was
sent for 7,441 members on November18, 2004. The check covered the insurance
premiums for January, February and March, 2005.
Marion Conley reported $318.00 had been collected on the earrings raffled at
the 2004 convention. The proceeds were to be used for the victims of the
numerous hurricanes that hit the state of Florida this past hurricane
season. She asked for assistance with a name and address of where the
Committee wished these funds sent. Gary Hill is to get back with her on this
information.
A motion was made by Jimmy Jones, seconded by John Conley and passed for the
Association to give $500.00 to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth as
t token of appreciation for the many hours of service rendered by our
Chaplain Dr. Rick Lanford.
Secretary John Conley reported he had talked with Mike Callan about a female
interested in a part time position selling ads for “The Georgia Peace
Officer”. John is to continue to communicate with Mike on the person’s name,
telephone number, etc. Hopefully, if Callan could employ this person the
royalty figure would improve over the past reports.
A synopsis of all 2005 convention bids sent into the office had been
prepared by the office and mailed to each person on the Committee. These bid
proposals were gone into in much detail as to what one site had to offer
over another site and the prices of the different locations. Finally, a
motion was made by Gary Hill, seconded by John Conley and passed to award
the bid for the 2005 convention to the Jekyll Oceanfront Resort. The rates
quoted by the Jekyll Oceanfront was guestrooms $67.00, one bedroom villas
$77.00 and two bedroom villas $97.00 per night. The dates set were August
21, 22 and 23, 2005. Entertainment for the convention was discussed with a
decision being made to have a dance Sunday night after church services and
Monday night as usual. If possible, a D.J. will be secured to provide music
during dinner Tuesday night and then, depending on the crowd, providing
dance music after dinner.
Vice President Gary Hill thinks he may possibly have a corporate sponsor
that will sponsor some of the $3,000 fee charged by Dr. Smith for the Monday
afternoon meeting.
President Moran stopped the meeting to extend a special welcome to the
District Directors that were in attendance and thank them for coming. He
hopes to have at least one meting a year in each of the eight POST districts
located throughout the State with the District Director for district being
the host. He reminded the District Directors that they are the primary POAG
recruiters for new POAG members. After a discussion, a motion was made by
John Conley, seconded by Gary Hill and passed to reimburse each District
Director mileage used in recruiting new members. This mileage must be
claimed for their personal vehicle and an expense report filed for payment
of same. The rate would be $.28 per mile.
The December meeting was called for December 21, 2004, 10 A.M., Methodist
Home and Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia. Dr. (Daddy)
Rick, our Chaplain offered to host this meeting.
Jimmy Jones made a motion, seconded by Gary Hill and passed to award a
Christmas bonus to Marion Conley of $600.00 and $300.00 each to Kristal Odum
and Penny Rewis.
Jimmy Jones reported that Past President Major Mickey Pearce with the Bibb
County Sheriff’s Department had the Spring Golf Tournament scheduled at
Oakview Golf and Country Club, April 11, 2005. |
