POAG EXECUTIVE MINUTES - November 2003:

The Executive Committee of the Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 2 P. M., November 14, 2003, at the Peace Officers’ Association office, Reidsville, Georgia.  Committee members attending included President Homer Bryson, Vice President Keith Moran, Board Members Gary Hill and Jimmy Jones, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, Legislative Chairman Bob Brown, and Executive Director Marion Conley.  Attorney Frank Childs and Chaplain Jimmy Waters were unable to attend. Visitors included Mike Callan.

The meeting was called to order and a welcome given all in attendance by President Homer Bryson.  Vice President Keith Moran gave the invocation.  President Bryson led the Pledge of Allegiance.

A motion was made by Bob Brown, seconded by Jimmy Jones and passed to approve the minutes and financial report from October, 2003.

Bob Brown made a motion which was seconded by Keith Moran that the Committee go into Executive Session with Mike Callan on issues relating to the “The Georgia Peace Officer”.  The motion passed and accordingly the Committee went into Executive Session.

A motion was subsequently made by Bob Brown, seconded by Jimmy Jones to end the Executive session.  The motion passed.

President Bryson handed out a PR article written by Melissa Cummings, Sr. Public Relations and Information Specialist with the Department of Natural Resources.  A copy of this release is attached and made a part of these minutes.  Homer relayed that Ms. Cummings would be happy to assist POAG with any PR matters in which they may have need of her assistance.

POAG member Billy Ray Blocker had faxed an insurance proposal to the office with quotes on an accidental death and line of duty death.  The Committee studied this proposal and wondered how a $5 a month increase in dues would affect our 100% departments.  It was decided to poll our 100% departments and ask their input in this question.  The accidental death and line of duty death benefit would increase from $2,500 or $5,000 depending on the choice of plans.  This proposal is attached and made a part of these minutes.

The December meeting was set for December 19, 2003, 10 A. M., Vidalia City Hall Council Chambers, 114 Jackson Street, Vidalia, Georgia.   The Committee is hoping that the Pabst representative can meet with the Committee at this meeting.  The meeting previously scheduled for November 24, 2003 has been cancelled due to this meeting.

Keith Moran made a motion, which was seconded by Jimmy Jones and passed to adjourn the meeting.
