EXECUTIVE MINUTES - May 2006:
The Executive Committee of the Peace
Officers= Association of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 10 A.M., May
26, 2006, at the Peace Officers Association of Gerogia, Reidsville,
Georgia. Committee members attending included President Gary Hill, Vice
President Jimmy Jones, Board Member Thomas Alley, Legislative Chairman
Homer Bryson, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, and Executive Director
Marion Conley. Board Member Mike Fordham, Attorney Frank Childs and
Chaplain Rick Lanford were unable to attend Vice President Jimmy Jones
gave the invocation and Board Member Thomas Alley led the Pledge of
Allegiance.
A motion was made by Jimmy Jones, seconded by Homer Bryson and passed to
approve the minutes of the April, 2006 meeting. The financial statements
from March and April were approved upon a motion from Jimmy Jones and a
second from Homer Bryson.
A synopsis of the bids received for the 2007 convention had been
prepared. These synopsis compares room rates, meeting space rates etc.
After a comparison of the rates, a motion was made from Homer Bryson,
seconded by Thomas Alley and passed to hold the 2007 convention at the
Jekyll Oceanfront Resort, August 26, 27 and 28th. The room rates will be
$70.00 for a regular room, $80.00 for a one bedroom villa and $90.00 for
a two bedroom villa.
John Conley and Gary Hill had carried Effingham County High School their
$2,500.00 check for Alcohol Free Prom Night. The report again was that
the prom night was completely successful with no reported DUI’s, alcohol
related accidents or any other adverse alcohol or drug related
activities. Both John Conley and Gary Hill wished to report to the
Committee from Effingham County High their thanks for the funds.
Homer Bryson made a motion to accept a proposal from Robins Federal
Insurance Agency to offer our membership auto, home, life etc. insurance
at a possible 10-12% discount. Jimmy Jones seconded this motion and the
motion passed. Homer Bryson further made a motion to not continue
discussion any discussions with California Casualty who was also
offering a discounted insurance program but was requiring POAG’s
endorsement. Homer’s motion was seconded by Thomas Alley and passed.
Homer Bryson will look into our possibly pursuing the idea of asking the
Legislature to provide health insurance to widows and dependents of
officers killed in the line of duty in the state who do not otherwise
have this coverage.
The Committee reminded the office to order new registration badges for
the convention so that duplicate numbers could be eliminated.
A discussion took place on a pay raise for Attorney Frank Childs. Our
Attorney has not had a raise in his retainer in over twenty-five years.
A motion was made by Jimmy Jones, seconded by Homer Bryson and passed to
raise that monthly retainer to $500.00 a month effective immediately.
All were reminded the magazine deadline for the September issue of “The
Georgia Peace Officer” is June 1st.
A date for the June meeting will later be set and all will be notified.
Motions to adjourn were made by Homer Bryson and Jimmy Jones.
