POAG
EXECUTIVE MINUTES - MAY 2004
The
Executive Committee of the Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc.
held a meeting at 10 A. M., May 11, 2004, at the POAG office,
Reidsville, Georgia. Committee members attending included President
Homer Bryson, Vice President Keith Moran, Board Member Gary Hill,
Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, and Executive Director Marion Conley.
Board Member Jimmy Jones, Legislative Chairman Bob Brown, Attorney Frank
Childs and Chaplain Rick Lanford were unable to attend. Visitors
included: Mike Fordham and Ken Suddeth.
President
Homer Bryson called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance.
A rough draft
of the convention program was distributed to all in attendance. The program
was thoroughly discussed with some changes made. Marion Conley reported
that Roger Reece (Fuddwhacker) had given her a price of $3,000 to speak on
Monday afternoon of the convention and one night’s lodging. The Committee
felt that the Association, at this time, could not afford this price and
since we did not have a sponsor, we would seek a speaker elsewhere. The
name of LaGrange Chief of Police Lou Dekmar was suggested as a possibility.
It was pointed out that Chief Dekmar was a wonderful speaker. Marshal Ken
Suddeth volunteered that since he knew Chief Dekmar he would talk with him
and see is his schedule would permit his making this appearance.
A discussion
occurred by the Committee on some Ladies coming to the convention that were
not Associate members of the Association, nor were they spouses or friends
of any peace officer in attendance. The Committee decided to ask the Ladies
Auxiliary President to tactfully suggest at one of the meetings of the
Ladies that perhaps these women would like to become Associate members of
the Association for only $25 per year dues.
Marion Conley
pointed out to the Committee the condition of the carpet in the office. The
Committee asked Marion to solicit bids on taking up the carpet, if the floor
beneath it is hardwood, then restore the hardwood floor. However, if the
floor underneath the carpet is not hardwood then get bids on replacing the
carpet.
Gary Hill
discussed the canines and handlers participation in the convention. We will
offer the handlers a “vendor” booth and then demonstrations can be held
outside at a schedule to be worked out by the handlers.
A motion was
made by Keith Moran, seconded by Gary Hill and passed approving the minutes
and financial reports from March and April, 2004.
President
Byrson will try to arrange the June meeting for the mountains of North
Georgia. He will notify the office of the time and place, the office will
in turn notify each appropriate party of this information.
The meeting was adjourned to
lunch at Southern Flair upon a motion by John Conley. The motion was
seconded by Gary Hill and passed. |
