POAG EXECUTIVE MINUTES -
March 2009:
The Executive Committee of the Peace
Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 10 A. M., March 27,
2009 at the POAG office, Reidsville, Georgia. Committee members attending
included President M. Keith Glass, Vice President Mike Jones, Board Members
Thomas Alley and Stephen Adams, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, Legislative
Chairman Homer Bryson, and Executive Director Marion Conley. Attorney Frank
Childs and Chaplain Rick Lanford were unable to attend. Visitors included:
Mickey Pearce, Lisa Casey and Charles Byrd.
President Glass called the meeting to order and welcomed all who came.
The invocation was given by Homer Bryson. Stephen led us in the Pledge of
Allegiance.
A motion was made by Homer Bryson, seconded by Stephen Adams and passed to
approve the minutes and financial report from February, 2009.
Some problems that had arisen with the fundraising project were discussed by
the Committee. John Conley had been in constant communication with the home
office of Public Safety Services in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Public Safety
Services, now aware of the problem, is beginning work on solving the
problem. The office will keep the balance of the Committee abreast of the
situation.
Mickey Pearce gave the Committee an update on the progress of the golf
tournament scheduled for May 4th. Ms. Rhonda Barnes continues to diligently
work for POAG in assuring the success of this tournament. However, she needs
the cooperation of the Committee in securing hole sponsors. Thirty teams
have signed to play in the tournament – only 48 teams can be accommodated.
Mickey reported the afternoon session is filled.
Homer Bryson reported that the video on POAG is moving nicely. POA&B Fund
will be incorporated into the video. A final script of the video will
probably be available next week.
John Conley again asked for help with the Alcohol Free Proms. The schedule
as he is presently aware of same will be e-mailed the Committee. A motion
was made by John Conley that POAG match $500 that Charlton County EMC will
give Charlton County High School. Charlton County EMC does not have an
Operation Round Up program so $500 was all they could give. Since this is
such a rural area John felt we could possibly make an impact by matching
this grant. This motion was seconded by Mike Jones and passed.
A speaker for the convention was discussed. Homer Bryson made a motion which
was seconded by Stephen Adams to ask one of our members, Gordon Lowe to be
our guest speaker. The motion passed. Gordon lost a child prom day as a
result of alcohol.
The portfolio of services offered by Veritas was not adopted to offer our
membership for lack of a motion.
John Conley again reminded all of the Law Enforcement Appreciation supper at
Wayne Dasher’s pond house, Glennville, Georgia on April 16th.
President Glass called the April meeting for April 20, 2009 at the N. E.
Georgia police academy, 55 Beaver Dam Road Ext., Athens, Georgia. The phone
number there is 706-369-6342. The meeting is set to convene at 10 A. M.
A motion to adjourn was made by Homer Bryson and seconded by Stephen Adams.
Accordingly, the meeting was adjourned.
The meeting place and time has had to be changed. The April meeting will be
at the POAG office, Reidsville, Georgia, Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 3:30 P.
