POAG EXECUTIVE MINUTES -
March 2008:
The Executive Committee of the Peace
Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 10 A. M., March
7, 2008 at Sconyers Restaurant, Augusta, Georgia. Committee members
attending included President Jimmy Jones, Board Members Mike Jones and
Thomas Alley, Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson, Secretary-Treasurer
John Conley and Executive Director Marion Conley. Vice President Keith
Glass, Attorney Frank Childs and Chaplain Rick Lanford were unable to
attend. District Director Charles Byrd and former POAG president Mickey
Pearce were visitors.
President Jimmy Jones called the meeting to order.
Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson gave the invocation.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by President Jimmy Jones.
A motion was made by Homer Bryson, seconded by Thomas Alley and passed
to approve the minutes from February, 2008. A motion was made by Homer
Bryson, seconded by Thomas Alley and passed to approve the financial
reports from February, 2008.
The Committee discussed the convention. Marion Conley passed the
training convention schedule out with the times of the classes posted.
Mike Jones reported he had acquired an average price of $9.25 for each
person, each meal Tuesday lunch and Tuesday night. Tuesday lunch would
consist of barbeque pork and chicken, stew, slaw, tea and water and
bread. Tuesday night’s meals would consist of hamburger and trimmings,
sausage wrapped in red rind cheese, wings and tea and water.
The continuing decline in magazine ad sales was discussed.
The highest a bank will offer on a certificate of deposit coming due is
3.4%. A motion was made by Homer Bryson, seconded by Mike Jones and
passed giving Secretary John Conley the right to invest these funds with
an outside firm if he can get a higher rate of return.
Secretary Conley reported that Thursday he would be going to Effingham
County High School to present the check for $2,500.00 for Alcohol Free
Prom Night, Wednesday he would be going to Barnesville to meet with the
EMC Foundation there about sponsoring an Alcohol Free Prom Night and the
Coastal EMC had agreed to give $2,500 to McIntosh Academy at Darien for
Alcohol Free Prom Night.
The April meeting will be April l5, 2008, 10 A. M., at the Travel Lodge,
5000 Harrison Road, Macon, Georgia. The Travel Lodge is where the
Executive Committee will be staying. The phone number, in case anyone

Homer Bryson made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Thomas
Alley. Accordingly, the meeting was adjourned. |
