POAG EXECUTIVE MINUTES -
March 2007:
The Executive Committee of the Peace
Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 10 A. M., March
9, 2007, at the Georgia State Patrol Post, Dublin, Georgia. Committee
members attending included President Gary Hill, Vice President Jimmy
Jones, Board Member Thomas Alley, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley,
Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson and Executive Director Marion Conley.
Board Member Mike Jones, Attorney Frank Childs and Chaplain Rick Lanford
were unable to attend. Visitors included Marci Hucheson, Claud Denney,
Dottie Harden, Guy Fussell, Charlie Byrd and Gordon Alley.
President Gary Hill called the meeting to order.
The invocation was given by Vice President Jimmy Jones.
Jimmy Jones made a motion, which was seconded by Homer Bryson and passed
to approve the minutes from February, 2007. The financial statement for
January, 2007 was approved upon a motion from Jimmy Jones, with a second
by Thomas Alley. The motion passed.
President Hill reported the receipt of $9,000 from Planters Telephone,
Inc. This check is to be disbursed as follows: $1,500 is go for as meal
at the convention, $5,000 will go toward an officers scholarship and
$2,500 will go towards Alcohol Free Prom Night. Screven County is having
their prom March 31st and Effingham County is having their prom May 5th.
Secretary Conley had met with Canoochee EMC March 7, 2007 and received a
promise of $2,500 for Alcohol Free Prom Night for Evans County prom
night. Vice President Jimmy Jones reported he is working with Flint
Electric in hopes of securing funds for Alcohol Free Prom Night. Guest
Claud Denney volunteered to attempt to secure a sponsor for this
worthwhile project.
Marion Conley gave an update on the signed contract between Excelsior
and POAG which is now in full force.
Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson was happy to give the Committee a
report that Lt. Governor Casey Cagle graciously accepted agreed to speak
at the convention.
Meals for the convention were again gone over with a decision being made
to have a low country boil Sunday night, let Bill Thomas cook steak and
chicken Monday night and barbeque Tuesday at lunch.
President Hill reported he has requested the shooting simulator and
Homer reported he will be bringing a fishing simulator in addition to
the shooting simulator.
Gary will ask the Georgia State Patrol FLIR
unit and also the canine unit to attend the convention.
Richard Hunt with Humana will be asked to attend the convention with a booth
and perhaps help people understand better the differences they may be
experiencing or about to experience in Medicare and other health and/or
prescription drug programs.
Jimmy Jones made a motion, seconded by John Conley and passed to award
Certificates of Appreciation to Planters Telephone, Robbins Packing, Landrum
Hodges, and Denney Bonding Company.
The subject of District Directors was gone over. President Hill decided to
name John Lacienski as an alternate District Director for the Augusta
District and Guy Fussell will be an alternate District Director in the Macon
District.
SB254 was discussed for some period of time. Homer will keep a close watch
on this bill. This bill has been assigned to the Senate Insurance and Labor
Committee. Among many other facets this bill would remove POAG President,
the firefighters and various others from the Indemnification Commission. As
a possible alternative, the Committee asked Homer asked to see if POAG could
be allowed to give the Governor three names to choose from as our
representative on the Commission.
President Hill read a letter to all making us aware of the Public Safety
Training Center 20th Anniversary celebration. The celebration will occur on
June 29th from 10:30 A. M. – 4 P. M. They were also asking for a donation to
the festivities.
Ladies Auxiliary President Marci Hutcheson was present was informed the
Committee of her willingness for the Ladies Auxiliary to undertake the
production of “LAWfully Cooking, Volume II”. An e-mail had been received
from the wife of one of our members wishing for another cookbook. Marion had
in turn contacted Marci, who very graciously agreed to undertake the
project.
Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson is having success with his Power Point
presentation around the State.
The April meeting will be held the day after the Spring Golf tournament,
April 17, 2007 at Lake Tobesofkee at 10 A. M.
Secretary Conley reminded all to be thinking of someone to dedicate the
convention to.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Jimmy Jones. This motion was
seconded by Thomas Alley and passed. |
