POAG EXECUTIVE MINUTES - March 2005:

The Executive Committee of the Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 10 A. M., March 15, 2005, Liberty County Sheriff’s Department MACE Building, Hinesville, Georgia.   Committee members attending included President Keith Moran, Vice President Gary W. Hill, Board Members Jimmy Jones and Mike Fordham,  Secretary-Treasurer John Conley and Executive Director Marion Conley.  Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson, Attorney Frank Childs and Chaplain Rick Lanford were unable to attend.  Visitors included: John Edwards, Jack Hodge, Al Cato and Thomas A. Alley.

President Keith Moran called the meeting to order, welcomed all in attendance and introduced Captain Al Cato with Hinesville Police Department.

Board Member Jimmy Jones gave the invocation.

A motion was made by Jimmy Jones, seconded by Gary Hill and passed to approve the minutes and financial report from February, 2005.

Board Member Mike Fordham reported Special Agent Tanya Perkins was diligently working on the training for the convention.  As quickly as this agenda is completed, it will be submitted for the Committee’s approval.  Mike also reported that there would be no cost for any of the training instructors.

A brief delay occurred in the meeting for the presentation of $1,900.00 to Tabria Williams, Junior Class Treasurer of Liberty County High School.  This is money provided by Miller Brewing in the promotion of “Alcohol Free Prom Night”.  Ms. Williams was accompanied by Assistant Principal Willie Graham and Sgt. W. M. Adams with Liberty County S. O.  Pictures were made of the presentation.

The Committee decided to continue the $20.00 convention registration fee and the awarding of $1,200.00 for attending training.  There will be no drawing for this $100.00 during the talk of Dr. Bobby Smith’s nor the 6-hour defensive driving course.  A total of $400.00 will be awarded Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Secretary John Conley brought before the Committee for discussion a possible recognition of the woman in Gwinnett County who brought to a peaceful conclusion the apprehension of the man charged with the murders of an Atlanta judge, court reporter, Fulton County deputy and possible Customs agent.  After discussion, it was decided to await the conclusion of the investigation by Atlanta Police Department into the entire scenario before any type of decision is made.

Secretary Conley also reported that the awarding of $1,900.00 to the Junior Classes of Liberty County High School, Screven County High School, Peach County High School, Camden County High School and Tattnall County High School would result in a slight overdraft of the Miller and POAG bank account.  Mike Fordham made a motion which was seconded by Jimmy Jones and passed to allow Secretary Conley to transfer the necessary funds from the POAG account into the Miller and POAG account to be able to award each school $1,900.00.

A motion was made by Mike Fordham, seconded by Gary Hill and passed naming a personnel committee of Attorney Frank Childs, John Conley and Jimmy Jones.  This committee will discuss a personnel matter with Attorney Frank Childs in order to be able to reach a legal conclusion.

Jimmy Jones made a motion to pay the Alternate District Directors the $.28 per mile for attempting to recruit POAG members.  This is the same fee paid the District Directors. This motion was seconded by Gary Hill and passed.

The Committee decided to have the vendor fee at exactly what the motel is charging POAG; namely, $25.00 per day plus $15.00 per day if electricity is needed.  Vice President Gary Hill already has three vendors lined up.

Jimmy Jones has been actively seeking means of state departments paying POAG dues.  However, Mike Fordham will check with the GBI who has already had a ruling from the Attorney General on using confiscated drug money to pay these dues.

Secretary Conley was happy to report that it appears Appling County Sheriff’s Department will become 100% POAG.

The low revenue from the sale of ads in “The Georgia Peace Officer” was again discussed.

The April meeting will be Tuesday, April 12, 2005,.  The meeting will convene at 10:30 a. m. at the Village Lodge and Conference Center, 5009 Harrison Road, Macon, Georgia 31206, I-475 and U. S. 80.  This is where the Committee will lodge Monday night and the Hospitality room following the golf tournament will be here also.  The telephone number is 478-474-0871 and the price quoted is $28.00 for the night.
