POAG
EXECUTIVE MINUTES - March 2004:
The
Executive Committee of the Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc.
held a meeting at 10 A. M., March 16, 2004, at the Peace Officers’
Association office, Reidsville, Georgia. Committee members attending
included President Homer Bryson, Board Members Gary Hill and Jimmy
Jones, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, and Executive Director Marion
Conley. Vice President Keith Moran, Legislative Chairman Bob Brown, and
Attorney Frank Childs were unable to attend. Visitors included: Ken
Suddeth and Ladies Auxiliary President Mary Poole.
Jimmy
Jones gave the invocation. President Homer Bryson led the pledge of
allegiance.
A motion
was made by Jimmy Jones, seconded by Gary Hill and passed to approve the
minutes and financial report from February, 2004.
President
Bryson informed the Committee he had talked with Dale Mann about being
the keynote speaker at the convention. Mr. Mann very much appreciated
the invitation and would be happy to accommodate but unfortunately, a
prior commitment made it impossible for him to even be able to attend
the convention.
Homer
stated he would call G. B. I. Special Agent Mike Fordham. Hopefully
Agent Fordham has a completed training schedule for the convention. If
so, this would enable us to be able to get same in the June “The Georgia
Peace Officer”.
Vendor
fees for the 2004 convention were discussed. A motion was made by John
Conley, seconded by Gary Hill and passed to charge vendor fees of $50
for the 3 days unless the cost to POAG exceeds $50 for the three days;
then we would pass our cost on to the vendor. State departments would
not be charged.
Entertainment for the convention was discussed with a motion being made
by Gary Hill, seconded by Jimmy Jones and passed to engage Celebration
for Monday and Tuesday nights. The cost for both nights will be
$3,000.00.
The
representative for Pabst Brewing Company had notified Secretary Conley
of tremendous budget cuts. He had suggested our writing the company and
requesting $2,500 for a meal since they had even taken his cooker.
President Bryson volunteered to check with several sources about
sponsoring a meal.
Board
Member Jimmy Jones brought before the Committee an idea of perhaps some
of the department canines doing a demonstration show during lunch.
While all thought this was an excellent idea, the idea was tabled for
further thought.
The Ladies Auxiliary
President Mrs. Mary Poole informed the Committee that Past President Bob
Boney has three of the old magazines she needs for the notebooks of
history. He has volunteered them to her. Also, she had obtained a
price of $6 per person for the Ladies Auxiliary to visit the Museum of
Arts and Sciences in Macon while at the convention. She also suggested
that the ladies could perhaps visit Ocmulgee National Mounds at no cost
to the Association. It is hoped that perhaps Bibb County Sheriff’s
Department could help with transportation.
John Conley told of Rev.
Rick Lanford accepting the position as Chaplain of POAG.
All were reminded that
the April meeting would be April 20, 2004 (the day after the spring golf
tournament). The meeting is scheduled for 10 A. M. at the pavilion,
Lake Tobesofkee, Macon, Georgia.
John Conley made a
motion to adjourn. This motion was seconded by Gary Hill and passed |
