For many years, the office has been experiencing a problem of an officer retiring, staying out of the Association many years and then rejoining. The office is faced with the problem of having to issue the person and active voting card. A lengthy discussion ensued on how we could remedy the problem in fairness to all members. The possibility of a resolution being introduced at the convention in September was considered. The wording of the resolution could possibly be: Anyone choosing to not be a member for five (5) continuous years cannot rejoin as an active voting member unless they are currently employed in law enforcement. This idea was tables for further consideration.

The Committee discussed the problem that will arise this year at the convention of our eating area being a public area. IT WAS DECIDED TO ASK STRICT PARTICIPATION FROM OUR MEMBERSHIP IN WEARING THEIR REGISTRATION BADGES TO ALL MEAL FUNCTIONS. THIS WOULD KEEP US FROM HAVING TO PAY FOR JOE DOE’S MEALS. We plan to have many signs announcing this.

Homer gave a report on SB236, which gives state dependents the right to retain State health insurance upon the death of the employee. Homer will contact Bill Hudgens’ office to see if we can get this bill amended to include all spouses of officers killed in the line of duty throughout the state.
