POAG EXECUTIVE MINUTES - June 2005:

The Executive Committee of the Peace Offficers of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 10:00 A.M., June 24, 2005 at the Peach County Courthouse, Fort. Valley, Georgia.  Committee members attending included President Keith Moran, Vice President Gary W. Hill, Board Member Jimmy Jones, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, and Executive Director Marion Conley.  Vice President Mike Fordham is deployed and Home Bryson was unable to attend.  Attorney Frank Childs and Chaplain Rick Lanford were also unable to attend.  Visitors included: Mary Poole, Morgan and Joyce Key, Roger Garrison, Bill Cline, Ken Suddeth, Ed Richards, Thomas A. Alley, John Edwards, Terry Deese, Kenney Cameron, and Mickey Pearce.

President Keith Moran called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance.

Board Member Jimmy Jones gave the invocation.

President Keith Moran led the Pledge of Allegiance.

A motion was made by Jimmy Jones, seconded by Gary Hill and passed to approve the minutes from May 2005.  After going over the financial report, a motion was made by Gary Hill, seconded by Jimmy Jones and passed to approve the financial report from May 2005.

President Keith Moran reported to the crowd the death of a peace officer and personal friend of his.  Unfortunately, this person had let their POAG membership lapse last year.  President Moran asks for a moment of silent prayer for the family of this deceased officer.

President Moran also reminded all in attendance of the need for “Officer of the Year” nominations and scholarship applications.  Each District Director is asked to contact their local law enforcement agencies and solicit worthy applicants for “Officer of the Year”.

President Moran reported several items POST Council is considering that will prove beneficial to active and retired peace officers.

President Moran was very happy to report to the attendees that the convention this year would be dedicated to an individual who has devoted much of his life “selling” POAG to peace officers.  He truly has been a staunch POAG supporter and very worthy of this convention being dedicated to him.  That person was in attendance, thanks to Sheriff Roger Garrison getting him there. That person was Bill Cline and he received a standing ovation when President Moran announced who it was.

Gary Hill reported Secretary John Conley had sent Dr. Bobby Smith a box of Vidalia Onions.  Dr. Smith had received these delicacies and was thrilled to get them.

Jimmy Jones brought before the Committee an idea that a drug interdiction school, involving several law enforcement agencies would be held July 18-21, 2005 in Lake Park at the 4-H camp.  POAG has been asked to serve food and a hospitality room, at no cost to POAG.  This would allow POAG to solicit new members.  The Committee decided to sponsor this event.

Marion Conley reported the old membership program in the computer has been updated and hopefully now all members can review their record for accuracy rather than completing a new card each year.

Ladies Auxiliary President Mary Poole reported the Ladies Auxiliary activities for the convention have been completed.

Bill Cline thanked the POAG for dedicating the convention too him even though, he said, he felt so unworthy.  President Moran pointed out to him that he certainly was an example for all to follow.

A motion was made by John Conley, seconded by Gary Hill for all to go to lunch at Lane Packing’s restaurant.  Jimmy Jones had made prior arrangements.

The July meeting had already been set for July 22, 2005, 10 A.M. at Jekyll Oceanfront Resort, 975 North Beachview Drive, Jekyll Island, Georgia.
