The
Executive Committee of the Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc.
held a meeting at 11 A. M., June 25, 2004, at the Department of Natural
Resources, Law Enforcement office, Brunswick, Georgia. Committee
members attending included President Homer Bryson, Board Members Gary
Hill and Jimmy Jones, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, and Executive
Director Marion Conley. Vice President Keith Moran, Legislative
Chairman Bob Brown, Attorney Frank Childs and Chaplain Rick Lanford were
unable to attend. Visitors included: Thomas A. Alley. Gordon Alley,
Mike Cline, Bill Cline, Tanya Perkins and Ken Suddeth.
President
Homer Bryson called the meeting to order and welcomed all in
attendance.
The
invocation was given by Board Member Jimmy Jones with the Pledge to the
flag being led by President Homer Bryson.
Jimmy
Jones made a motion, which was seconded by Gary Hill to approve the
minutes and financial report from May, 2004. The motion passed.
A contract
had been received from Macon Holiday Inn for the convention. The
contract called for a meal Tuesday night of the convention furnished by
the Holiday Inn at $25.00 a plate. Secretary John Conley had been in
communication with the Holiday Inn about this matter since a low country
boil was planned for this night. The dinner was to be prepared by POAG
membership and served in the parking lot. Holiday Inn’s response was
that they had quoted a room rate of $60 based on their preparing a
meal. Since the meal was not specified and the office knew the Holiday
Inn would be preparing a meal for the ladies auxiliary and the Old
Timers breakfast, it was thought this was sufficient. John Conley had
made “back-up” plans to go to Jekyll Island in case the matter could not
be satisfactorily resolved. While at the meeting John Conley again
called the Holiday Inn and was told they would release this portion of
the contract for a fee of $2,500.00. After much discussion, the
Committee decided to go ahead and hold the convention at the Holiday Inn
in Macon. The Committee felt that it was perhaps a little late to
change the convention site.
In the
absence of Mike Fordham, Tanya Perkins with the G.B.I. reported that all
classes being offered at the convention will the POST certified. Tanya
will handle the C-l2’s.
Marion Conley reported
that hopefully, in the near future, an article from the GBI crime lab
would be forthcoming for submission to “The Georgia Peace Officer” each
quarter.
Marion Conley also
reported that she had received an estimate of $4,050.00 to take up all
the carpet downstairs at the office and redo the oak and pine hardwood
floors. This price would include replacing the molding, moving the
furniture and putting the furniture back after the floors are
completed. Since she was able to secure only one bid for this job a
motion was made by Gary Hill, seconded by Jimmy Jones and passed
authorizing this work to be done.
Major Bill Cline
reported that Sheriff Roger Garrison of Cherokee County was most
appreciative of being appointed as the county representative on the POA&B
Board.
The next meeting is
scheduled for 10 A. M., July 2l, 1004, Macon Holiday Inn.
