President Colbert
introduced all to the Floyd District - District Director Jason Nelms.
Jason has been recruiting new members for POAG in the Floyd District and
had arranged the meeting in Rome.
The minutes from June and
the financial report from May, 2003 were approved upon a motion from Bob
Brown. The motion was seconded by Homer Bryson and passed. Marion Conley
stated there was no financial report for June, 2003 yet awaiting a bank
statement on the fundraising project from Minnesota.
Linda Smith from the Floyd
County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Sharon Meeks, Director of Sales
for the Holiday Inn Skytop were introduced. These two ladies presented a
most informative talk on what Floyd County and the Holiday Inn Skytop had
to offer as a potential convention site. The meeting space appears
adequate and Ms. Meeks agreed we could cook in the parking lot.
The Committee had
previously been mailed a synopsis of all nominees for POAG “Peace Officer
of the Year for Valor and Meritorious Service”. It was discussed that
someone other than the person’s supervisor made one of the nominations.
According to the rules, the supervisor MUST make the nomination;
therefore, it was decided that this nominee could not be considered. A
motion was made by Bob Brown, seconded by John Conley and passed to award
Corporal Stanley Elrod, Department of Natural Resources the award for POAG
“Officer of the Year for Meritorious Service”. A motion was made by Bob
Brown, seconded by Gary Hill and passed to award Officer Jamey Holloway,
Metter Police Department POAG “Officer of the Year for Valor”.
District Director Ken
Suddeth reported he and Board Member Gary Hill will meet with the Chief’s
Association. Ken had been successful in giving POAG some favorable
publicity on WRCG in Columbus. The show was a talk show affording him an
opportunity to talk about POAG history etc.
The next meeting will be August 22,
Jekyll Inn, Jekyll Island at 4 P. M. This meeting will enable the
Committee to complete all convention arrangements.
Bob Brown made a motion to adjourn to
lunch. The motion was seconded by John Conley and passed.
President Colbert adjourned
the meeting. |
