EXECUTIVE MINUTES - July 2000:
The Executive Committee of the Peace
Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 10 A. M. July
25, 2000 at the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department Range, Macon, Georgia.
Committee members attending included President Bill Hitchens, Board
Members Wayne Avery and Harry Colbert, Legislative Chairman Bob Brown,
Public Relations Director Jimmy Jones and Chaplain Jimmy Waters.
Vice-President Carson Knight was on vacation, Attorney Frank Childs
was unable to attend, and Secretary-Treasurer John Conley was sick and
Executive Director Marion Conley was with him.
Visitors included: Jim Redmon, Ken Suddeth, Mickey Pearce, Jerry
Willis and L. D. Park.
The meeting was called to order by
President Hitchens with a welcome being given to all.
Chaplain Jimmy Waters gave the
invocation.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag
was led by Wayne Avery.
A motion was made by Bob Brown and
seconded by Wayne Avery to approve the minutes and financial report from
June 2000. The motion passed.
Mr. L. D. Park of Park &
Associates Insurance Services discussed at length with the Committee the
marketing of the Internet services. The
hold up in the process is the design of the web page.
President Hitchens reported he is working with Mark Revenew on
getting the information together. President
Hitchens advised he will set-up a meeting with L. D. Park, Mark Revenew
and himself to get this task accomplished so that POAG may begin selling
Internet services.
The training program for the
convention was discussed with District Director Ken Suddeth advising this
is ready with all the instructors lined up.
Public Relations Director Jimmy Jones
advised the band Celebration has been contracted with for Monday night and
D. J. Buck Wilder has been contracted with for Tuesday night’s
entertainment.
District Director Morgan Key advised
that Atlanta Police Officer Allen Brad Rogers had been killed in the line
of duty the previous night. A
passing motorist had observed the tragedy, chased the perpetrator down and
held him until law enforcement personnel arrived on the scene.
The Committee thought it would be most appropriate if Morgan could
obtain the name of this citizen and then award him an Honorary Life
Membership in the Association at the convention.
The next meeting was called for August
10, 2000, at 10 A. M. at the POAG Office in Reidsville.
A motion was made by Bob Brown and
seconded by Wayne Avery to adjourn. The
motion passed. The meeting
was adjourned to the wonderful fried turkey lunch prepared by the Bibb
County Sheriff’s Department. |
