POAG EXECUTIVE MINUTES
- January 2002:
The Executive Committee of the Peace Officers’ Association
of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 10 A. M., January 22, 2002 at the
Holiday Inn, I-75 and Arkwright Road, Macon, Georgia. Committee members
attending included President Wayne Avery, Vice President Harry Colbert,
Board Members Homer Bryson and Keith Moran, Secretary-Treasurer John
Conley, Legislative Chairman Bob Brown, Attorney Frank Childs, Chaplain
Jimmy Waters, Public Relations Director Ken Suddeth and Executive Director
Marion Conley. Visitors included: Jim Redmon, Morgan and Joyce Key, Jane
and W. R. Harber, Billy Ray Blocker, Mickey Pearce, Ronny Lynn, Al Burnsed
and Dennis Wells from Prepaid Legal.
The meeting was called to order and a welcome given to all in attendance
by President Wayne Avery.
Rev. Jimmy Waters gave the invocation.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by
President Avery.
Mr. Al Burnsed of Prepaid Legal updated the Committee on the status of
Prepaid Legal and POAG’s contract. Mr. Burnsed is hoping Prepaid Legal
will approve a link to our web site so that we could acquire a full
commission fee for members that signed up for Prepaid Legal through this
avenue. In counties where the sheriff or someone helped him arrange
payroll deduction, we would get a finders fee. Mr. Burnsed plans to
attend next month’s meeting with all details completed.
A motion was made by Bob Brown, seconded by Harry Colbert and passed to
approve the minutes and financial report from December, 2001.
Attorney Frank Childs reported on the proposed contract received from Mike
Callan of Emergency Services, Inc. on the telemarketing effort to be
undertaken by Emergency Services, Inc. As with the magazine contract,
this contract would give Emergency Services, Inc. the right to use the
name Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. POAG would have the
right to approve the script to be used by Emergency Services, Inc. Frank
proceeded to go over the contract in more detail and pointed out a few
minor changes he wishes to discuss with Mike Callan. President Avery
stated he would contact Mike Callan this week on setting up a meeting,
preferably at the site the telemarketing would occur. A motion was made
by Bob Brown, seconded by Keith Moran for President Wayne Avery and
Secretary-Treasurer John Conley to sign the contract between Emergency
Services, Inc. and POAG as quickly as said contract is approved by
Attorney Frank Childs. This motion passed.
Board Member Keith Moran reported to the Committee that Instructor Dave
Grossman, a killology instructor charges $3,000 plus travel expenses for
his training instructions. Homer Bryson then volunteered to see if he
could acquire instructors that were very interested in attending the 2001
convention but circumstances prevented their being able to attend that
particular convention.
President Avery asked Bob Brown if he
would please check with POST about putting a link to our web site on their
site.
Member Ray Blocker discussed with the
Committee an idea of reaching out to other groups such as Glock Sport
Shooting Foundation who has 32,000 members nationwide. This would
hopefully be an avenue of our acquiring new members and also getting our
name before more people. The pistol tournament held by Glock in the fall
in Conyers is the largest in the nation. Ray would like to see POAG
“piggy back” in that tournament by simply purchasing a Glock gun to award
a POAG member that would shoot in the tournament. President Avery asked
Ray if he would be willing to head up the project. Ray relayed he would
be happy to do so. Bob Brown then made a motion which was seconded by
Keith Moran that would allow Ray Blocker to implement this program. Keith
Moran also volunteered to assist Ray is whatever capacity he could do so.
The motion passed.
Member W. R. Harber presented his idea
on the POAG having its annual fall convention in Helen, Georgia. He
assured all that Helen and the Best Western met all requirements necessary
for a successful convention.
Vice President Harry Colbert reminded
all that the spring golf tournament was scheduled for April 8, 2002 with
the Executive Committee meeting to be held the following morning. The
tournament is planned for Oakview Country Club, Macon, Georgia. The fee
would be $40 per golfer with a 4 man scramble being planned.
President Avery reported he is still
working on his Power Point Presentation.
The February meeting was set for
February 19, 2002 at the Liberty County Jail, Airport Road, Hinesville,
Georgia. The meeting is set to convene that Tuesday morning jat 10 A. M.
The phone number for the jail is 912-876-4555.
A motion was made by Bob Brown,
seconded by Harry Colbert to adjourn. Accordingly, the meeting was
adjourned. |
