POAG EXECUTIVE MINUTES - February 2006: 

      The Executive Committee of the Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. held an unofficial meeting at 3 P. M., February 21, 2006, at the law office of Groover and Childs in Macon, Georgia. Committee members attending included President Gary Hill, Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, and Executive Director Marion Conley. Vice President Jimmy Jones and Board Members Thomas Alley and Mike Fordham were unable to attend. Chaplain Rick Lanford was also unable to attend.  Visitors included Joyce and Morgan Key, Ed Richards, Bobby Carter, Alan Everidge, Dottie Harden and Mike Callan. 

      Since there was not a quorum of Committee person present it was decided to have general discussions of topics in general with Mike Callan presenting his presentation on a new Royalty Contract. 

      President Gary Hill reported that Bill Thomas had agreed to cook a barbeque dinner on Monday night and steak and chicken dinner on Tuesday night of the convention for the same price as last year.  Gary also reported he had talked with John Edwards, D. J. and John and Mike McDaniel would D. J. again this year.  Gary had also checked on the low country boil. 

      Secretary Conley reported that Pabst Blue Ribbon will give $1,000 for food for the delegates.  Secretary Conley had also spoken with General Manager and Vice President of WTOC TV in Savannah Bill Cathcart and he will speak on Monday afternoon of the convention. 

      Mike Callan of Callan Publishing, Minneapolis Minnesota was present to discuss a new contract with the Committee for “The Georgia Peace Officer”.  Mike presented all a “Project Operating Report” showing revenue and expenses.  He also gave each a proposed new contract with highlighted changes for their consideration.  A lengthy discussion occurred between Mike and the Committee on methods that could be utilized so that the contract would be more profitable to Callan Publishing and POAG.  Per Mike, the old contract will be abided by until a new contract can be reached and agreed upon by all. 

      Alternate District Director Ed Richards is diligently working to bring Dr. Bobby Smith to the Columbus District April 21, 2006.  Ed gave a brief report on this project. 

      Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson went over the training that he and GBI SAC Garry Moore are tentatively proposing we offer the delegates at the convention.  All in attendance at the meeting were very impressed with the schedule. 

      President Hill reported several letters that had been sent from the office-seeking sponsors for Alcohol Free Prom Night.   

      Secretary Conley reported having received a proposal from a company offering our membership an opportunity to purchase supposedly cheaper auto and home insurance among a few other amenities.  John was instructed to invite the company representative to the March meeting. 

      POA&B Fund Bobby Carter reported to the Committee that HB 101 would not affect officers already retired.  This bill has passed the House but is sitting in the Senate.  He was very happy to report that retirees received a 1 ˝% pay raise this past January. 

      President Hill called the next meeting for March 10, 2006 at the Georgia State Patrol Post, Statesboro, Georgia on 30l South.  The meeting will convene at 10 A.M.
