Jimmy
Jones made a motion, which was seconded by Keith Moran to approve the
minutes and financial report from July, 2004. The motion passed. It
was pointed out that the financial picture was beginning to look
somewhat brighter because of the telemarketing effort. Ad sales in “The
Georgia Peace Officer” continue a downward trend.
Marion
Conley reported that from July, 2001 through June, 2004, 216 memberships
had been issued to new academy graduates. Of the total issued, 73 had
renewed their membership.
John
Conley relayed conversations that he and Board Member Gary Hill had been
having with law enforcement in hurricane torn Florida. The biggest
problem facing law enforcement down there was the lack of funds for
feeding the working officers. Lt. Doug Dodson with the Florida Highway
Patrol had reported to John and Gary that 50 law enforcement officers
could be fed for $426.00. A motion was made by Jimmy Jones, seconded by
John Conley to send $1,000 to feed law enforcement personnel working the
disaster area. This motion passed. It was further decided to hold a
raffle at the convention and send the funds raised to Florida. Jimmy
Jones volunteered to try to acquire a suitable item to be raffled at the
convention.
John
Conley reported three guns had been purchased for the convention at a
cost of $500.00 for the three.
All
persons attending the meeting were reminded that door prizes were needed
for the convention.
A motion was made by
Jimmy Jones, seconded by Keith Moran and passed to award outgoing
President Homer Bryson a life membership in the Association.
John Conley reported a
continuing sewage problem at the office. Bids had been acquired for
replacing existing water and sewage lines. However, once work began on
these lines additional problems were uncovered such as rotten flooring
in the bathroom. Jimmy Jones made a motion, seconded by Keith Moran
authorizing the Secretary-Treasurer to make whatever repairs were
necessary to correct the problems.
The idea of notifying
the Sheriff’s Association and the Chief’s Association of the training
that would be provided at the convention. Mike Fordham volunteered to
notify both agencies of the convention training schedule.
