The Executive Committee of the Peace Officers’ Association of Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 10:00A.M., August 13, 2001 at the Jekyll Inn, Jekyll Island, Georgia.  Committee members attending included President Bill Hitchens, Vice President Wayne Avery, Board Members Harry Colbert and Homer Bryson, Secretary-Treasurer John Conley,  and Executive Director Marion Conley.  Legislative Chairman Bob Brown, Public Relations Director Jimmy Jones, Attorney Frank Childs and Chaplain Jimmy Waters were unable to attend.  Visitors included:  Sammy Murphy, Gary Hill, Joyce and Morgan Key, Ken Suddeth, Cecil Bass, MaLuse Clarke and Keith Moran.

President Hitchens called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance.

            Wayne Avery gave the invocation.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by President Hitchens.

A motion was made by Wayne Avery and seconded by Harry Colbert to approve the minutes and financial report from July, 2001 as well as the year end audit report prepared by CPA Cary Baxter.  The motion passed.

Amy Rayburn with Jekyll Inn was present to go over the entire convention program and plan where each scheduled event would occur.  She had quoted Secretary Conley a price of $500.00 for use of the air conditioned tent for our convention events.  A motion was made by John Conley, seconded by Wayne Avery and passed to pay all convention cost.

District Director Sammy Murphy reported having talked with Paul DeLoach of Miller Brewing.  Mr. DeLoach confirmed we would have a joint hospitality room at the convention, had ordered the hand outs to be given in the hospitality room and we could expect the initial start up fee of $5,000 around the middle of September.  Sammy will need help in the joint hospitality room to assist himself, his wife and Mr. DeLoach.  Mr. DeLoach will be on the convention program Monday afternoon rather than Tuesday afternoon.

President Hitchens reported that our web master, Mark Revenew, will retake the pictures of items available to our membership such as the stickers, badges etc.  After retaking these pictures they should be available on the web site shortly.

Attorney Childs reminded the office that the Constitutional amendment relating to Associate dues was passed at the 2000 convention in Columbus.

The office had been approached by Michael K. Hoffman, Financial Services Advisor with NAII.   Mr. Hoffman had desired to make his services available to our membership through a link to our web site, write an article for possible inclusion in “The Georgia Peace Officer”, and appear on our convention program to show his “Financial Vest” program.

The Committee decided to allow this since the member could express their wishes as to whether they wish to participate in the program or not.

The office reported that Eugene Alvarez, co-author of “Just the Facts, Ma’am”, the authorized biography of Jack Webb, the creator of “Dragnet” would be at the convention to sign and sell books.

All were reminded that the September meeting would be at the Jekyll Inn, Jekyll Island, September 22, 2001 at 4 P.M.

A Motion was made by Wayne Avery, seconded by Harry Colbert and passed to adjourn.  Accordingly, the meeting was adjourned.
