The Executive
Committee of the Peace Officers’ Association of
Georgia, Inc. held a meeting at 10 A. M., April 17,
2007, at the Lake Tobesofkee Club House, Macon,
Georgia. Committee members attending included
President Gary Hill, Vice President Jimmy Jones,
Board Member Mike Jones, Secretary-Treasurer John
Conley, Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson, Attorney
Frank Childs and Executive Director Marion Conley.
Board Member Thomas Alley, and Chaplain Rick Lanford
were unable to attend. Visitors included Donna
Holcomb, Mary and Bill Poole, Ken Suddeth, Guy
Fussell and Ralph Sheppard.
President Gary Hill called the meeting to order.
Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson gave the
invocation.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by President Hill.
Attorney Frank Childs was in attendance a short
period of time to remind the Committee that the
Callan agreement over the “The Georgia Peace
Officer” would expire the end of May and all needed
to be thinking of the terms they wished for a new
contract and the period of time they wished the new
contract to run for. In the meantime, Frank will
talk with Mike Callan.
President Gary Hill thanked Bibb County Sheriff’s
Department for hosting the golf tournament the
previous day. The twelve teams that played all
seemed to have a most enjoyable day. President Hill
also wished for the Peace Officers’ Association to
go on record as offering our condolences to the
Virginia Tech students and families in the tragedies
that had just occurred there.
Jimmy Jones made a motion, which was seconded by
Homer Bryson and passed to approve the minutes from
March, 2007. The financial statement for February
and March, 2007 was approved upon a motion from
Jimmy Jones, with a second by Homer Bryson. The
motion passed.
President Hill reported the success of Alcohol Free
Prom Night for Screven County March 31, 2007.
Claxton Night School and Greenbriar High School in
August will be this Saturday night (April 21, 2007)
and Effingham County High School Prom Night will be
May 5, 2007 to conclude our Alcohol Free. Prom Night
season for 2007.
All were reminded to remind our members that they
needed to pre-register to attend the Intoxilyzer
5000 course at the convention.
A motion was made by John Conley, seconded by Homer
Bryson and passed to dedicate the 2007 convention to
Retired Warden and Past POAG President Robert (Bob)
S. Boney.
Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson reported that
Devin Strickland will donate 200 pounds of shrimp
for the low country boil.
Also, according to Homer SB254 some concessions were
reached but he will know more about the bill next
week. POAG and the Firefighters will each make a
suggestion to the Governor about who will serve on
the Indemnification Commission Board and the
Governor will make a choice from that list.
President Hill reminded all of the 20th anniversary
of the Public Safety Training Center. A motion was
made by Jimmy Jones, seconded by Homer Bryson and
passed to give the Center $250.00 toward this
celebration.
It was decided to give a minimum of $500.00 and a
maximum of $1,000 in scholarships on the Officer
Scholarship funds and on the Dependents Scholarship
funds.
The next meeting was called by President Hill for
May 11, 2007, 10 A. M., POAG office, Reidsville,
Georgia.
Legislative Chairman Homer Bryson reported he would
be presenting his Power Point presentation this
Thursday in Augusta.
A motion was made by Homer Bryson, seconded by John
Conley and passed to adjourn.
