Secretary-Treasurer John Conley, and Executive Director Marion

Chaplain Rick Lanford were unable to attend. Visitors included:

Vice President Jimmy Jones gave
the invocation and President Gary Hill led the Pledge of
Allegiance.
A motion was made by Jimmy
Jones, seconded by Homer Bryson and passed to approve the minutes of
the March, 2006 meeting. Since the bank statement had not come in
from Minneapolis on the fund raising effort there was no financial
statement available.
The President asked if we had
heard from our attorney on the insurance matter from our attorney.
It was advised no word had been received on this matter.
President Hill advised the
Committee letters had been written the appropriate persons on using
the simulators, FLIR unit and canine unit for the conventions.
Marion relayed to all that the
vendor fee for the convention will the $25.00 for the entire
convention unless electricity is used. Then the fee will be $45.00
for the entire convention.
President Hill and Legislative
Chairman Homer Bryson were happy to report that Joe Mahoney would
feed a cold cut lunch on Tuesday of the convention for $3.50 per
person. This price would not include a beverage. However, the
Committee decided we could furnish the beverage. A motion was made
by Homer Bryson, seconded by John Conley and passed to accept this
price and lock Mr. Mahoney in for this date and at this price.
The Committee was informed that
the Johnnie Robertson scholarship had become reality. The
scholarship would be for $1,000, awarded by a member of the family
at the convention and chosen in July when the others winners were
chosen.
President Hill told the balance
of the Committee of his and John Conley’s visit to Effingham County
High School to present the program on Alcohol Free Prom Night.
Since no word has been heard from South Effingham County High
School, this school has been “written off” and the $2,500.00 funds
earmarked for this school will be saved for usage next year. This
year only Effingham County High School will receive $2,500.00.
2006 Tybee Island
TRAINING CALENDER All 20 Hours of P.O.S.T. required
All were reminded that training
is in place. If you wish to get the pistol training, you will have
to miss two hours of the Monday morning training to attend the
pistol training, which will include one hour of instruction and one
hour of qualifying.
It has been decided that GBI
SAC John Edwards will DJ Sunday and Tuesday nights.
An e-mail had been received by
the office from State Representative Curtis S. Jenkins.
Representative Jenkins was seeking the support of POAG in his bid
for election to the Board of Directors of the National Rifle
Association. Secretary Conley had tried unsuccessfully many times
to get in touch with Representative Jenkins. Since no contact could
be made, the request was tabled.
Chaplain Rick Lanford has
requested a few rooms at the convention for some of the Homeland
Security chaplains who also serve as POAG chaplains. Training space
for these chaplains will also be needed. A motion was made by John
Conley, seconded by Homer Byson and passed to honor this request.
Ms. Tami Hall of California
Casualty Management Company was present to discuss an insurance plan
her company would like to offer our members which would give our
members lower discounts on their insurance premiums (because of
their being peace officers) on homeowners, auto etc. We will ask
our attorney to look the proposal over.
President Gary Hill thanked
Bibb County Sheriff’s Office for their putting together the golf
tournament and cooking the meal to feed us following this meeting.
The May meeting was set for May
26, 2005 at the POAG, Reidsville at 10 A. M. This was done in an
effort to help Marion Conley who will be recuperating from surgery
and unable to travel.
An e-mail received from Roger Parker of COPS was discussed.
This e-mail concerned an Indiana parole situation where the offender
shot an officer. The Committee decided to ask the webmaster to put
this on the web site and let our membership respond to this, if they
so desire.
A motion was made by Homer
Bryson to adjourn to the meal prepared by Bibb County. This motion
was seconded by John Conley and passed.
