Child Abduction Response Team (C.A.R.T.)GBI ASAC Cindy Ledford
CART is a “force multiplier” to provide rapid response assistance in the event of a child abduction or missing/endangered child investigation.  CART provides immediate resources from all Georgia state agencies to assist local jurisdictions in the search for a missing child.  Research has shown the first three hours following a child abduction are the most critical and in order to safely recover the child, a rapid ORGANIZED response is a must. 

Ground Support for Airborne Search and Rescue – GSP Sr. Trooper Kyle Sapp
This class is designed to inform officers how to assist an aviation unit with a search and rescue mission. Some of the topics that will be discussed will be thermal imaging, aircraft safety and ways that you can help make the mission a success.
 

Make Order from Chaos:  Managing Your Personnel during a High Profile Investigation – GBI SAC John Edwards
This course will examine how managers can make order from chaos by implementing the following  four strategies in the investigation of major cases:  1)  Proper Planning and Preparation, 2) Defining Roles and Responsibilities, 3) Managing large amounts of information effectively and efficiently, and 4)  exemplary communication. 

Identity Theft Investigations – GBI SAC Terry Sosebee
Identity Theft is currently one of the most prevalent criminal activities that is defining the early 21st Century.  This course will review involved criminal activities, victim and suspect characteristics, and crime prevention.                                                           

Fourth Amendment Update:  Search and Seizure/Use of Force– GBI Dawn Diedrich, Deputy Director for Legal Affairs
This year’s legal update will focus on the Fourth Amendment, particularly in the areas of search and seizure and the use of force.  The class will address recent Georgia decisions in the area of search and seizure and examine the law regarding the use of force – in particular, the use of firearms and electronic control devices (Tasers).  Additionally, the class will review the three tiers of police-citizen encounters with particular emphasis on the Terry stop and also address when a frisk or “pat-down” for weapons is appropriate.   

Active Shooter – GSP Cpl. Gary Langford
This course will familiarize the attendees with the Rapid Response Concept and dealing with other issues involving active shooter situations.
 

Criminal Behavior Rapid Assessment – GSP Lt. Kermit Stokes and Sgt. Blake Swicord
This course will provide a brief overview of crimes in transit on our interstate system.           

Foreign CMV Awareness – MCCD Lt. Gene Davis
This course is designed to familiarize law enforcement officers on what to expect when dealing with commercial vehicles domiciled in Mexico and Canada.  Included in the presentation will be information that will assist law enforcement officers understand foreign CDL’s and required documentation they will need to complete a wreck report in case these vehicles are involved in a traffic accident. 

Crisis Intervention – How to respond to the Mentally Ill – GBI SA April Wrenn
This course will familiarize law enforcement officers with the signs and symptoms of mental illnesses as well as how to de-escalate crises involving persons with mental illnesses.  

Generational Leadership – GBI SAC John Heinen
This training session will provide insight to managers regarding the current generations (baby boomers, generation X and Y) in today’s law enforcement work force.   Simply understanding the strengths, potential weaknesses and differences in these generations can provide leaders with more effective management techniques. 

Off Duty Officer Survival – GBI SAC Micah Ward
This course looks at various issues when confronted with the decision of taking enforcement action when in an off duty status. 

Media Management – GBI Inspector Fred Stephens and SAC Tom Davis
This course will highlight the roles and responsibilities of police agencies in managing situations where the media is focused.

Pre-Trial – Witness Identification – GBI SA John Durden
This course will teach the students the elements of Pre-Trial Witness Identification as it pertains to law enforcement officers. 

Investigating Child Abuse – GBI SA Barry Thompson
This course will provide the officer with an overview of the proper strategies involved when investigating the sexual abuse of children. 

Drugs, Domestic Violence, and Protection Orders - FBI Eric M. Moore
In the world of law enforcement these are a mainstay of everyday life.  The Federal Bureau of Investigations National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Section will provide information on how these things and others, dealt with on a daily basis could subject a person to a federal firearm disqualifier under the Brady Act.
